Bake for the Quake

24 Apr

Tonight was Bake for the Quake at The Roundhouse Community Centre. TONS of bakers came together with their amazing treats to sell and all the proceeds went to Japan.

I got there about 10 minutes before 6 and I am glad I did! There was a HUGE line behind me within about 5 minutes. Walking in the the small room at the Roundhouse I was overwhelmed with the amazing baked goods! As much as I wanted everything, I had to make my choices carefully. There were so many people there it was a bit of a challenge to look around! I hardly got to say hello to anyone!

These marshmallows were amazing!! YUM! Not very veggie of me, but I could not resist!

I am excited to attend Bake for the Quake on Wednesday Apr. 20th, getting some work done with the amazing Popcorn team, and doing some finishing up on packing! I am set to move next weekend and I am sure it is going to be exhausting. I have some amazing roommates and a great place that I am looking forward to calling home.

Getting Ready To Move

13 Apr

For those of you who do not know, I am getting ready to move. I am excited to move to a lovely condo in Coal Harbour with two LOVELY roommates.

My room is going to be TINY, like really really tiny, so I am currently trying to discover ways to make my things smaller. So far I have discovered that packing my clothes and sheets in to vacuum sealed bags is AMAZING! I cannot believe I did not buy these sooner. They are not that expensive and such a space saver. I got 5 from London Drugs for just $22! And almost ALL my clothes fit in to them!

I cannot wait to move in to a gorgeous place, with amazing people (one of which who is also a vegetarian!) and a really great gym right in the building. I will keep you posted on the move, but so far I am just cramming stuff in to bags… JOY!

Any moving advice???

Sunday Brunch at the Waldorf

12 Apr

Sitting down to brunch this past Sunday at the Waldorf for my step sister’s birthday was nothing short of great. The ambiance of the large size dinning area was amazing. Tiki meets you just walked in to a retro 70’s dining room.

The waitress we had was the perfect blend of funny, efficient and just really nice. If she did forget something, she got right back on it. The menu is typical Mexican (as that is the theme!). Its loaded with beans, eggs, cheese and salsa!

I had the Molletes Tradicionaleside of guacamole for $2.50. You can add bacon or sausage to the bun for a few dollars as well.

I really loved this! The bun was soft but also slightly crispy from being toasted, the beans were creamy and had a great flavour and the cheese, well cheese is always good. The salsa gave it a bit of freshness and spice and I was so happy I got the guacamole as it was a gorgeous addition and ULTRA creamy. This is a must add in my opinion.

Overall it was an inexpensive and really delicious brunch. The coffee is bottomless which works well on a Sunday morning. Definitely try out the Waldorf the next time you are in East Vancouver. One thing that would have been nice is some Spanish music/guitar during brunch. That would have really made it pop!

Desayuno Brunch Mexicana takes place on Saturdays and Sundays 11am-4pm

When Jheric Hizon, a member of the local Bboy crew Now or Never found out that New York’s DJ Kool Herc was hospitalized and in need of some financial assistance to pay his medical bills, he immediately contacted some fellow hip-hop heads to host a fundraiser.

The Big Payback fundraiser (named after a classic track by EPMD, a duo also considered among the pioneers of hip hop) will be held at W2 Storyeum, 151 W. Cordova St, in Vancouver, B.C., on April 10, 2011.This will be an all-ages event from 2-7 p.m. that will feature all the elements of hip hop: Bboying/Bgirling, MCing, DJing and graf writing. A $10 minimum donation will be collected at the door, with all proceeds set to be donated to the Kool Herc Fund. More info on the fund can be found at

Thankfully, Kool Herc is out of the hospital. However, Hizon says “the Vancouver hip hop community would still like to pay tribute to Kool Herc and the other hip-hop pioneers that paved the way for what we do today.” And although The Big Payback was inspired by Kool Herc’s unfortunate situation, organizers say should the need to raise funds for another pioneer occur again, this might not be the last you see of The Big Payback! That’s how much the local community recognizes how indebted they are to their East Coast forebears.

Make sure you head over to W2 Storyeum on Sunday April 10th!
