Ones to Watch: ADALINE

19 Aug

I have been blessed over the last year to get to know and help out local Vancouver, singer/songwriter, Adaline. Adaline’s music is a beautiful combination of elegant melodies, beautiful piano and a voice that is unlike anything I have heard before. From the first time I heard Adaline play, for Junofest 2009, I knew I wanted to work with her and help her in any way possible. Adaline was a part of last years Peak Performance Project and came in 4th which gave her an automatic entry in to this years Peak Performance Project! She will be gunning for the grand prize against many other talented musicians such as Kyprios, Said the Whale and the Parlour Steps to name a few.

Recently Adaline has been in Toronto recording her sophomore record with the AMAZING Hawksley Workman!
She made this incredible video to show us a glimpse in to her time in Toronto!

Keep your eyes on the Peak Performance Project as you are sure to see Adaline rise to the top once again. Also, look out for her next record!

Chariot Festival 2010

16 Aug

I went down to the 2010 Chariot Festival at 2nd Beach today. It was really amazing! There were hundreds of people there getting free vegetarian feasts which were plates full of rice, pakoras, salad and other Indian delights. They had many booths about vegetarianism, reincarnation and information on the Here Krishna mantra.

I also had an amazing veggie samosa and the most amazing ice cream called Kulfi which was cardamon flavour and almonds. SO amazing.

As I was sitting down to enjoy my food there was some chanting, dancing and drumming that took place right beside me! It was great and everyone was filled with so much joy! Check out this short video:

Chin Injeti at Calabash for Thursty Thursday

16 Aug

Chin plays every Thursday night at Calabash in Gastown in downtown Vancouver. I was fortunate enough to be there this past Thursday August 12th to enjoy the amazing Caribbean food (I had the Veggie curry which was served in the most amazing 3 tired metal dishes which came out to you one with rice and peas, one with the curry and one with salad it was sooo good! I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture!)

Chin was there playing and blew everyone away. If you want a great meal, amazing drinks, good friends, great vibes and amazing tunes, check out Calabash on Thursday nights. Here is a video of Chin from that night.

People to Watch: OMAR KHAN

9 Aug

I want to start writing about musicians and bands that more people need to know about here in Vancouver and even all over Canada.

I wanted to start it off with Omar Khan who is living and creating here in Vancouver, BC. Not only is Omar an amazing local artist, he is a hilarious MC and you can usually find him MC’ing local events around town where he is usually doubling as a performing act.

Check out this amazing video of Omar at a Hastings Set Party:

He is definitely someone to watch out for, as he is likely to be a HUGE artist here in Canada and beyond very soon.

Learn more about Omar on his Myspace or his blog
He can also be found on twitter @omarkhanmusic

Take a look at this gorgeous video by Janelle Monae. Very simply, and beautiful. I love this song and I am very happy to see it as the 2nd single off her latest record Archandroid

Let me know what you think!

PS. I just noticed she has pretty big eyebrows. I am SO into them. They are not waxed to oblivion and she is just so beautiful! YEAH!
